The Challenge
When the nation’s largest retailer of specialty pet supplies was faced with high employee turnover and low production in its primary distribution center in Arizona, they decided to take a closer look at its current flexible staffing supplier.
What the retailer found was disappointing. The current staffing service was continuously providing poor service – no reporting, bad communication and low quality talent. Morale was poor and worker’s compensation claims were escalating.
After carefully evaluating service options, the company chose Pro Staff as its new contingent workforce management partner. Pro Staff emerged as the leading contender because of its history of success with other clients as well as its proven ability to turn around similar situations as the one facing the company.
The Action Plan
Pro Staff was able to quickly draw on 25 years of experience and extensive national resources to approach this company’s situation in a strategic and cost-efficient manner.
Recruiting:

- Coordinated job fairs for high volume hiring
- Tested, qualified and had background checks completed for every new hire

Training and Development:
- Transitioned talent to automated distribution center processes

- Managed attendance and punctuality closely and established corrective action procedure
Reporting and Communication:

- Delivered both daily and weekly reports
- Facilitated 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift and weekend communication meetings
- Maintained 24/7 availability for customer and talent needs
The Results
Within four months of Pro Staff being onsite at the company’s distribution center, turnover had significantly decreased to less than 15 percent. Training and orientation was in place, worker’s compensation claims were down by 80 percent and employee morale was on the rise.
The company was so pleased with Pro Staff’s approach to its business needs that it asked Pro Staff for a national contract to service its new, state-of-the-art distribution center in Ottawa, Illinois. Starting with almost no talent base in a remote rural location, Pro Staff was able to successfully hire and place 250 full time talent in the new distribution center.
