Total Workforce Hiring for Start-up Operation

The Challenge
A major wireless repair and refurbishment company recently underwent an extensive reorganization which included expanding and updating plants around the country as well as consolidating a facility.  Pro Staff worked with the company to get the new facilities staffed and operational within 30 days.  Pro Staff also facilitated efforts to make sure the displaced employees at the closing plant – both full time and temporary – were provided resources for new job opportunities.

The Action Plan
Because of its experience and resources,  Pro Staff was selected to manage both the ramp up of staff and processes at the company’s facilities as well as the outplacement service to impacted employees.

Recruiting Process Outsourcing:

Pro Staff worked closely with the customer to reach its go-live hiring objectives in three separate states at the same time.  With no clear outline of how many employees needed to be hired or how the process would flow, Pro Staff relied on its 25 years of experience to make it happen.

Because two of the customer’s locations had no Pro Staff branches in the state, five remote employees were flown in from around the country to work exclusively with the company during the ramp-up phase.  At a third location, three members of the local Pro Staff branch were dedicated to the account.  Within 45 days, Pro Staff:

  • Filled all open requisitions
  • Created a temp-to-hire program and provided a percentage of flexible staff for peaks and valleys in business
  • Developed a targeted recruiting plan
  • Structured the requisition process
  • Managed the onboarding and orientation process for all new employees
  • Implemented automated time collection systems in all locations for more efficient timekeeping and tracking of talent
  • Consolidated weekly billing
  • Provided cost analysis data with customized data fields
  • Organized and reviewed current staffing suppliers
  • Established transition plans and contract negotiations with suppliers

Outplacement:

When the customer consolidated its southeast plant, 24 employees were displaced and in need of new work.  Pro Staff assisted these people in the following areas:

  • Met with talent one on one and listened to what each employee personally wanted to accomplish in terms of career growth and then tailored a job search to each unique situation
  • Provided skills assessments and online software training
  • Provided resources that included resume review, interview tips, industry data, and state-provided programs for financial support
  • Gathered information on employers in the area hiring for similar positions, locations and pay rates
  • Set up introductory meetings between talent and local employers to explore existing work opportunities
  • Marketed talent to existing Pro Staff customers regardless of whether or not there was a current job opening

In this unique situation, Pro Staff offered all talent placements free of charge to prospective employers.

The Results
Of the displaced employees, Pro Staff was able to help 90 percent find new employment, thus helping to maintain company morale and saving unemployment claim cost.  Within the first 30 days of ramp up, Pro Staff hired and trained 130 employees, enabling the customer to be up and running ahead of schedule.  By the 90 day mark, 430 people were working in their facilities.  Through increased efficiencies and improved productivity, cost savings for the total solution exceeded $400,000 in the first year.
